Following is the text of the letter written by artists Jayanta Bhagawati and Pranaame Bhagawati, who performed in the recently concluded 'Assam Day 2009', to the President of the UAAUK:

It’s a great pleasure for us to say “Thank You” to the United Assam Association, UK (UAAUK) through you for inviting us to perform on the grand ‘Assam Day 2009’. Being introduced to so many Assamese people and families living abroad from quite a long time and doing great things in their profession, is something to be really proud of. Besides living in abroad from last 40 to 50 years, the Non Residential Assamese people’s love and attachment for their native land is very emotional. That’s why perhaps the Assamese living in abroad cook delicious Assamese dishes.

As the spectators enjoyed watching our dance performance, we also enjoyed performing thoroughly amidst the nice sophisticated gathering. The stage was wonderful and the sound system was great. There were many minute things that were handled carefully behind the stage. And ultimately, it was so nice of all those who joined us at the end of the show dancing throughout. Also, congratulations to the members and associates who presented their performing skills by presenting songs and musical instrumental pieces on the eve of Assam Day 2009.

Again it’s a great work by the Association, to organise an exhibition, which displays traditional Assamese attires (Mekhela Sador, Gamusa, etc.) and other clothing from the Northeast India. The Coconut Ladoos (Naarikolor Ladoo), Tilor Pitha, Assamese Brass utensils, books, etc. were very well displayed. We were too emotional seeing all these and we can easily assume the people’s feelings for displaying and seeing all the exhibits.

Indeed UAAUK is doing a marvellous job in terms of promoting our native culture in abroad with a very dignified standard. Please keep it up, we wish you all the very best of luck.

With lots of love and regards,
Jayanta Bhagawati
